Excessive sun exposure can lead to skin pigmentation. So how do you protect your skin in a country that is hot and sunny all year around? Try the following method.
- Use a sunscreen every time you go out into the sun. Use one with at least SPF 30 to protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
- Try to avoid sun exposure between 10am and 4pm when the ultraviolet rays area at their strongest.
- If you need to go out into the sun, wear protective clothing. Use a hat or umbrella and sunglasses.
- Exfoliating your skin regularly can prevent hyper pigmentation. This is because hyper pigmentation can occur when dead cells accumulate in a particular area. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and exposure new ones.
- Pay attention to any changes in your skin, ie; new moles, bumps, skin discoloration or growth. See your dermatologist if you notice such changes.
- If you have been diagnosed with hyper pigmentation, your dermatologist may recommended certain treatment options. These may include prescription creams, bleaches and even laser treatment.
