An Introduction To Colon Cleansing

In this day and age, when rapid changes often take place in our lifestyles, it is all the more important to vigilantly take care of our bodies and look after our health and well being. The consumption of fatty foods and alcohol, smoking, lack of exercise and even too much stress from work can all lead to health complications. Therefore it is important that we curb these unhealthy activities, or at least find effective counteractive ways to keep healthy.
Colon cleansing is one natural option to staying healthy. Also known as “bowel cleansing”, it involves different therapeutic methods to remove toxins such as fats, free radicals and cholesterol from the body’s intestinal tract and colon. This can be carried out through colonic irrigation or oral cleansing. By colonic irrigation, an enema is performed to cleanse the colon and intestinal tract, while in oral cleansing, intake of dietary supplements or laxatives is done.
While some people swear by the healthy powers of colon cleansing and its ability to curb constipation and lessen the jeopardy of getting colon cancer, some believe there are too many risks involved. For instance, colonic irrigation might expose a patient to bad bacteria formation. Frequent colon cleanse has also been documented to lead to dehydration due to electrolyte imbalance. Therefore, like with any other health procedures, one must consult his or her doctor before undergoing colon cleansing.
